Lily Wittenburg & Jenni Zimmer
•NOTE ON In-Difference•
In the course of their second collaboration Lily Wittenburg and Jenni Zimmer have decided to work with the space and its architectural possibilities. Lily Wittenburg understands drawing as a sensitive and processual medium. Departing from her interest in architecture, she takes a graphic approach to phenomenons like absence and emptiness. In conjunction, Jenni Zimmer pursues a serial principle in her drawings. Through the tireless drawing of lines, she builds planes and spaces that constantly change. By means of multiple repetitions and the recombination of lines, forms and planes, the artists are questioning the space and its transformation in time.
In their concerted installation for »NOTE ON In-Difference«, two artistic systems interact with a simultaneity of closeness and distance, amalgamated by means of light, vectors and shadows. The term In-Difference, borrowed from the book Abwesen (2007) of the South Korean philosopher Byung-Chul Han, is for thinking the juxtaposition of diversities as a continuum of closeness. Transferred to the context of art this term unfolds a special meaning with regard to the equality [Gleich-Gültigkeit] of single interventions and elements toward the architecture of an (exhibition) space. Against this backdrop Lily Wittenburg and Jenni Zimmer focus on proportions and transitions in their artistic work, on the spatial of the in-difference, which catalyzes into a site specific and collective moment.
